35-year-old soul artist, Nathi Mankayi has appeared to be off the radar for quite some time. His friend and former record label mate, Vusi Nova, is not the reason for his declined fame.

In 2015/16 Nathi Mankayi blew up with his single titled Nomvula. Mankayi's friend, Vusi Nova, introduced him to record label, Muthaland Entertainment.

This is where Nathi also released his second album (Umbulelo Wam) which unfortunately did not do as well as his first (Buyelekhaya).

Speaking to Mo Flava on The Drive with Mo Flava & Masechaba Ndlovu, the musician opened up about leaving Muthaland and attributed the separation to feeling as though he had no control over his affairs and his music.

"Ever since I left Muthaland, I feel a great difference. I am free now, free to do things the way I see fit. I am very free and I have control over my affairs," he said.

There were reports that he went on to register his own record label with his sister, who is also a singer, Amanda Mankayi. The record label is called 'Mankayi Media.'

The record label decision seems to have also been coupled with a rebranding strategy. He has changed his Twitter, Instagram handle and Facebook Page. It looks like he has essentially 'started over.' Good on him as we wouldn't want him to wind up like Fifi Cooper who, last year, was sued for attempting to profit from the intellectual property she had signed off to Ambitious Entertainment.

He has since made a few appearances with his sister performing their track titled 'Impilo.'
