"One of rap's powerhouses in South Africa"

AKA has taken over the airwaves with one of the illest remixes on the music scene titled ‘Baddest (Remix)’. This banger of a tune features tight 16s from some of SA’s hottest female rappers Fifi Cooper, Rouge, Moozlie and Gigi Lamayne.

Kiernan Forbes, better known as AKA, was born in Cape Town in January 1988 and raised in Johannesburg. He first burst onto the music scene with the rap group Entity which produced the hit titled ‘Touch N Go’ and was nominated in 2005 for ‘Best African Hip Hop’ at the KORA Awards. The group disbanded in 2006, and AKA continued to pursue music by studying sound engineering and forming the I.V League production company with two colleagues named Buks and Kamza.

In 2011, AKA dropped his debut solo album titled ‘Altar Ego’ which featured top singles ‘Victory Lap’, ‘All I Know’ and ‘Bang’ featuring Khuli Chana. ‘Victory Lap’ and ‘Bang’ earned him a South African Music Award for Best Male Artist of the Year. He dropped his sophomore album in 2014 titled ‘Levels’ which featured smash hits such as ‘Congratulate’, ‘Run Jozi’ with K.O and the chart topper ‘All Eyes On Me’ featuring Nigeria’s Burna Boy, Da L.E.S and JR.

He has won numerous awards, including Best Collaboration at the 2015 MTV Africa Music Awards and the 2015 African Muzik Magazine Awards for ‘All Eyes On Me’. He dropped his current chart topper ‘Baddest’ in September 2015, and made what is dubbed as one of the remixes of the year featuring an all-star female MC line-up of Fifi Cooper, Rouge, Moozlie and Gigi Lamayne for the track. He has been featured on a number of tracks, including Reason’s ‘Yipikayay’, DJ Maphorisa’s ‘Belinda’ and Anatii’s ‘The Saga’, and caused a stir in October 2015 with the drop of ‘Composure’ where he expresses his thoughts about his personal relationships, career and challenges.
