"Music is my purpose, and I live by the statement that everything happens for a reason."

Hip hop has just been elevated with the drop of 'Yipikayay' by Reason featuring AKA and Khuli Chana. The track blazes with a dope tune and tight, attitude-filled 16s from Reazus, the Super Doro Mega and the Motswako Originator. The track is produced by pH.

Sizwe Moeketsi, better known as Reason, was born in Tembisa and raised in Katlehong in Johannesburg. He came up as a battle rapper competing in numerous competitions, and it wan’t long before he caught the attention of DJ Fresh in 2005 who was then YFM’S the breakfast host of the show called ‘The Unrestricted Breakfast Show’. Reason delivered jingles for the show. He went on to grow in popularity and receive titles such as ‘Emcee of the Month’ which was given to him by Lee Kasumba while she was hosting a hip hop show on YFM in 2006.

Reason worked as an art director at the Jupiter Drawing Room while taking part in rap battles on the side, but decided to pursue music full time following retrenchments at the company. Being part of the underground rap-battle scene chiseled him into the fine artist he is today as it provided him with the skills of wit, pace and improvisation.

Reason’s first studio release titled ‘The Reasoning’ went on to be on of SA’s highest rated albums in 2010 and garnered critical acclaim from Hype Magazine. It featured production talent from Battlekat, Instro, Mizi, Rastic Ras and Ootz The Afronaut. His most notable work which further propelled him to superstardom include his tracks ‘Walk on Water’ which was featured in the award-winning South African film ‘Otelo Burning’ and the ‘Do It Like I Can’ which was a commercial success in SA.

Explaining his moniker, Reason says that he believes that music is his purpose and he lives by the statement that everything happens for a reason.
